How to ping Twitch, Hitbox, and Ustream’s servers
1. Open Command Prompt.
2. In the Command Prompt, type “ping [address of your server]” and press [Enter] and wait for the command to finish. To find out the address of your streaming server, open your Channel Properties in XSplit and match it with the Server Address Lists below. For example, if you selected “EU: London, UK” as your server in your Twitch.tv Channel Properties in XSplit, type “ping live-lhr.twitch.tv”
Server Address Lists
A. Twitch.tv - Copy the server address (what is between the “rtmp://” and “/app”) from this list
B. Ustream - Copy the server address from your Ustream Dashboard -> Remote -> RTMP URL
C. Hitbox - Copy the server address (what is between “rtmp://” and “/push”) from the “stream_ingest_list:” in here.
3. If you get a request timed out or if your ping time is more than 150 ms, it could indicate that your server’s response time is slow.
4. If the above happens, to try to speed things up, select a different server from the server address lists (if possible).
Once you get an acceptable ping time, make the change in your Channel Properties and do a test stream to see if it will give you better results.
